There are also a set of printer protocols that Linux supports by default, it is also possible that they eliminated THAT support in the ROM of the printer to lower the cost. I can see how it it possible to have a printer that won't work with Linux. I have NO KNOWLEDGE if either of these possibilities applies to this specific printer.
